Meghalaya stands as one of the four tribal-dominated states in India's Northeastern Region, having formerly been a part of Assam. Established on January 21, 1972, its name, Meghalaya, translates to 'the abode of clouds' in Sanskrit. Meghalaya General Election 2024Meghalaya, a state in northeastern India, has two Lok Sabha seats. These seats are Shillong Lok Sabha constituency and Tura Lok Sabha constituency. The Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya for 2024 are scheduled to take place on April 19, marking the first phase of voting. Consequently, there won't be multiple phases for this constituency. The deadline for filing nominations for the Lok Sabha 2024 Election was March 27, 2024. The counting of votes and announcement of results will occur on June 4.
Election HistoryIn the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Vincent H. Pala of the Indian National Congress (INC) emerged victorious in the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, securing 419,689 votes. Jemino Mawthoh of the United Democratic Party (UDP) received 267,256 votes, resulting in a margin of victory of 152,433 votes for Vincent H. Pala. Meanwhile, in the Tura Lok Sabha constituency, Agatha K. Sangma of the National People's Party (NPP) clinched victory in the 2019 elections with 304,455 votes. Dr. Mukul Sangma of the INC received 240,425 votes. Agatha K. Sangma secured a significant margin of 64,030 votes. Overall, Meghalaya witnessed a total voter turnout of 71.43% during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
